KBB#9: Classic Puff Pastry

puff pastry1

My very first time homemade puff pastry :)). This time KBB (Indonesian Baking Club) challenge to make puff pastry really make me worry because I´m not sure I can do it. Why? I love puff pastry but I used to buy ready to use puff pastry and the important things: quick, easy and I can get delicious snacks. See my older posts using puff pastry: Blätterteig Tuna/Tuna puff pastry, Pisang molen (Banana puff pastry), Choco Pudding in horns, zwiebelkuchen/Onion Pie.

Finally, I did it. I´m sooooo h
appy. It must be treated carefully, patience and of course..time consuming. Will I make it again in the future? Hmm.... I still prefer to buy ready to use puff pastry than make by my own. At least, I have completed the challenge successfully.

KBB#5: Banoffee Pies

My second challenge for KBB#5, since I´ve joined Indonesian Baking Club (KBB). I bought only 3 mini tart tins with diameter about 12 cm, so I made only a half of the recipe below. I don´t have any problem to make the pastry. When I started to make filling, upppsss......I had no brown sugar in my kitchen. Hmm...the filling should to be brown, caramel of white sugar can help to get similar colour. Yessss..... I get it and taste good but still too sweet for me!

Pancake with Pineapple Jam

My kids´quick breakfast is almost similar everyday such us toast bread with salami or jam, sometimes with cream cheese, sliced tomatoes and sliced cucumber, scrumbled eggs. For weekend: Fried rice and instant noodles :). Inspired by Elsye, I think .....why don´t make something different for breakfast. I decided to make pancakes as my entry for breakfast recipe remix event hosted by Robin & Daniele.

Onion-Garlic Sticks

When we had an Indonesian gathering two months a go, Kak Elsi brought this snacks. It´s really good. I watched how quickly they disappear. So, I asked her for the recipe. Unfortunately, I couldn´t make it directly because I don´t have a noodle/pasta machine. Of course, you can still make it manually but it will take longer than if we use this gadget. Thanks to WSV (winter schluss verkauft/winter sale), thought this machine can be used in every season :)). I prefer to buy a stainless steel-made than chromium-plated noodle machine. The reason for the choice, this metal doesn´t corrode easily. My oldest son helped me to make noodles, he really enjoyed using the gadget.

Belgian Waffles& Indonesian Food

We went to Brussel last weekend. On the way to Manekin Piss, something made me drooling.....hmmm.. yummy Brussel Waffles!
I posted some photos in my Multiply.

In Belgium there are two types of waffles (or gauffres as we like to call them): the Brussels and the Liege waffle. The Brussels is rectangular in shape with a golden-brown exterior, deep divots and is usually eaten with a knife and fork. Brussels waffles are served with a variety of toppings such as powdered sugar, whipped cream, ice cream, strawberries and chocolate. The Liege waffle is golden-yellow, more dense in texture and has a burned sugar coating on the outside giving it a lightly sweet flavor. This hand-held waffle is sold by street vendors all over Belgium.(source: http://www.visitbelgium.com/waffles.htm).

You can see another waffle recipe here (German Waffle)

......And Family gathering with Indonesian Food!

Breakfast: Nasi Uduk
See my Nasi Uduk recipe.

Lunch Menu: Rice, Pepes Salmon (Spicy salmon wrapped with Banana Leaves), Lalap (fresh vegetable & Sambal, Crispy chicken, Stir Fry vegetables, Semur daging (beef in sweet soya sauce), krupuk.
see my Pepes Ikan Salmon recipe.

P.S: Special Thanks to Tante Nien´s Family for hospitality, kindness and....delicious meals ^_^.
