Thank You

When I sent this picture of Fruit Cake with Sour Cream as my entry (category: Baking and Photography) to celebrate KBB´s first Anniversary , I didn´t think that I´ll win the contest until Arfi, founder of KBB (Indonesian Baking Club), announced the winners of KBB Contest in KBB-mailinglist. What a surprise for me !

I would like to thank you to all of judges and also many thanks to mbak Arfi of homemades and Regina who sent me wonderful and useful gifts. Thanks a lot!

Rawon/Chunk Beef in Black Soup & Awards


Rawon (Chunk Beef in Black Soup) is popular in East Java. The black colour comes from seed of the tropical tree/ Kepayang Tree/Kluwek (Genus: Pangium edule, Family: Flacourtiaceae). Fermented seeds/Kluwek nuts are a speciality in Indonesia and have been used as spices.

Gründkohl/Kale-Beef Curry

Kale/Gründkohl, considered to be one of the most highly nutrious vegetables with powerful antioxidant properties, is very high in beta carotene, vitamin C, lutein and zeaxanthin and reasonably rich in calcium (source: Wikipedia).

I planted the seeds of Gründkohl/Kale in my little garden on March´07. Today, one of great joys is to pick the leaves and cook them in my kitchen. I just feel good! I made easy and fast Gründkohl-Beef Curry by using Instant curry seasoning mix. The taste of Gründkohl/Kale is almost similar with Cassava leaves or called daun singkong in Bahasa Indonesia.
