Kaastengels /Cheese Shortbread Cookies

For the best result, the choice of cheese is important to make Kaastengels. Use old/matured cheese/alt Käse like Gouda or Edam. Don´t forget to add pinch of salt if using unsalted butter.

Kaastengels (1),
Ingredients:
125 g salted butter
2 egg yolks
25 g maizena/cornstarch

150 g all purpose flour
100 g grated old/matured Edam/Gouda Cheese
¼ teaspoon baking powder

For garnish: 50 g grated cheddar cheese, 1 egg yolk

directions: Mix butter, egg yolks with a mixer then add the grated matured cheese. Knead in the mixture together with flour, maizena and baking powder. Roll the dough and cut into small rectangles about 1x3 cm. Preheat the oven to 180°C. Place rectangles onto grease trays. Brush each one with the egg yolk and sprinkle with grated cheddar. Bake until done about 15 minutes.

Kaastengels (2),
Ingredients:
125 g old/matured Gouda cheese
250 g salted butter
350 g all purpose flour
For garnish: 1 egg yolk, grated cheddar or middle old Edam Cheese
directions: mix butter and cheese with a fork, add flour. Knead the dough and roll the dough until 1 cm thickness or less then cut them. Then, follow the same directions above.

Yum! Looks great. I just bought some aged Wisconsin chedder cheese, but I don't think that will work with this recipe.

Dwiana P: Iya bener time consuming bikin kue kering tuh. Bikin satu resep langsung abis hari itu juga sama anak2ku ^_^
Kelly mahoney: Hmm...I´m not sure too if using other cheese. Maybe you´ll get different taste.
